Oct - Dec 2010

Max - If I were in a club and one of my tracks was played, would I dance?
The answer to that is simple, I am only ever in clubs when i'm working, so if one of my tracks is on when i'm there its usually because I am on stage singing so I have no choice but to dance!!!
My sister in law had a habit of putting "Searchin" on at every family party , which became very tedious over the years....... after we had a  serious team talk,  she doesnt do it anymore, thankfully. Although no doubt I will be forced to sing it at her next BIG birthday in August!!

Lou - My fave CD to play at the moment has to be the latest Rumer album. I love her voice. Its great to play in the car when im driving, and "Slow" has such a lovely Karen Carpenter/Dusty feel. Love it!
There is a gay country artist called Chely Wright, who's latest album "Lifted off the ground" is on my ipod, again another great one for playing and singing along to in the car. I have just read her biography "Like me" which I highly recommend.

KC12 - My favourite way to relax is to spend time at home with my family. Having a 6 year old is exhausting, so a rest is always welcome. I do enjoy working, so when I do shows its nice to be a "Pop Star" .

Candy - My favourite Christmas presents this year are a little odd! My nephew and his wife made a beautiful hamper of Tiptree jams. They had put so much thought and effort into it, I loved it. Plus benng and Essex girl, I have to say Tiptree jam is the BEST in the world!!  My other favourite presents was from my daughters class and teacher. It was a big  Christmas card that they had made, and a little one glass bottle of rose wine , and some sweeties, as a thank you for doing cooking lessons every Friday. It was such a nice surprise. I dont drink , but I had the glass of wine with my lunch over the Christmas holidays.

Bear57 - Who did I like the best, Mike, Matt or Pete?
Wow, thats a hard one as they are all such different characters. Pete is a genius at putting the right people together on projects, but he isnt a musician. Mike and Matt were the musicians - so between the three of them something magical was created. I cant say I have a favourite, although Mike has said some lovely things about me in the past. I like them all equally.

Red Coat - Yes, I did a really enjoy my time working at the 3 Butlins camps. I had a great time, and met some lovely people. I have VERY fond memories of my times there. The crowd was always ready to have a good time, and I loved the family atmosphere.

Gregory - Will I sing at your wedding?
I Love singing at birthdays and Civil Partnerships.

Bruce - Where is your favourite place for a holiday?
These days I like  Norfolk,Devon and Cornwall. Now I have a 6 year old who has to be in school I have had to give up my January's in the Caribbean  : (
It was a habit for a very long time, as soon as the New Year had arrived, I would head off to the Caribbean sun, but I really enjoy holidays in the UK.
If its good enough for The Divine Miss M, Bette Midler (who I believe is a huge fan of Norfolk) its good enough for Miss Dean.

Frank.
I would Love to come to Sydney to do the Mardi Gras, but I need to be invited.
Why don't you start a "Bring Hazell to Sydney" campaign in Oz....I may get there before I  eventually retire : )
Re the video n Malta. To be honest, I wanted the video to be made in Africa, as the song starts with a Zulu rain chant, but for some reason (and I cant remember why) we ended up at the location of the Robin Wiliams movie, "Popeye". Also I stayed at The Phoenician Hotel, which was gorgeous, we filmed a lot of footage there also.
That was my first video for EMI.

Thankfully, I had music in my life which took some of the strain of being dyslexic.
It has been difficult at times, and I used to be quite embaressed  by it, but now I don't let it bother me at all.
I recently heard that something like 80% of big company CEO's are dyslexic, which is amazing!
My shopping list, however, is quite a sight to behold.....its a good job I know what I mean!

Hello Brazil.
Nice to hear from you. I have never visited your beautiful country, although my friend Nicki French has been over many times.
Maybe you should also start a "Bring Hazell to Brazil" Campaign : )

Im still pondering "Big Bad and Dangerous" as the song was for Divine, and about Divine, and very much in demo format, i'm not sure I want it doing the rounds and being played as a "Hazell Dean" track., which it certainly isnt!!!
I will have to think about that one.

HiNRGBoy.

I have known Miquel Brown since 1983, and I really like her voice.
I love the song, and thought Miquel would do a great job of it.
I was also working with Tina Charles at the time, so it was a bit self indulgent of me, but most enjoyable to record with both Miquel and Tina.
Both tracks were Dean & Ware productions.
Miquel did a live PA of "Its a Sin" at The Virgin Mega Store on Oxford Street in London, and she couldnt hear the intro of the track, and for a few moments it all went horribly wrong, but being a pro she picked up fast and  saved the day.
I on the other hand almost had a coronary!

Always

Hi Jeffrey in Phillidelphia
No I  didnt sing on any of the Rick Astley tracks, it was probably Mirriam Stockley who did masses of the backing
vocals at that time. She was very popular throughout that whole period.

Ahhh, at last the contact page is working again, and a very interesting couple of questions from Mattroy. So here my the reply.

To Mattroy -
Yes, I met Divine on many occasions, and saw his shows, twice in Holland and once here in London at The Hippodrome.
I have even been to his apartment in New York.
Divine was at first quite wary of me - a bit suspicious, thinking I was going to steal his manager, Bernard, away from him. After a while he decided I could be trusted and liked me.
In fact I met my dear friends  in New York, Pati and Simon through Bernard and Divine.
Pete Ware and I did write a song for him "Big Bad and Dangerous" but sadly he passed away before he ever heard it.
I still have the demo, with me singing it!!!!!!
Its a lot of fun, and would have been great. Like Divine very much he was scary and adorable all mixed together.

And your next question about the lovely Mr Pete Burns - Yes I knew that Pete had been influenced by "Whatever I do", which was very flattering.
Pete and the boys in Dead or Alive were always so sweet to me. We bumped into each other a lot while touring around the UK and Europe.
I last saw him in Paris at a EuroPride in the early 90's (There is a photo of us in the gallery section).
I loved all of those Dead or Alive tracks, and Pete's look - so striking!
And yes, Of course I watched him on Celebrity Big Brother!!

13th Jan 2010.
